Analysis of narrative and information design

In the Summer of 2018 Reuters Graphics published an article entitled “Talking Heads” which contained
detailed figures for the meetings of Russian Presidents Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump, and phone
calls between them and other leaders.

In the part of the article regarding the phone conversations Trump and Putin have had with the world
leaders, the numbers were displayed using interactive Bar Chart that shows (on mouse over) the name
of the leader, the name of the country, and the number of calls made.

A note was added concerning the President of the Kyrgyzstan, Almazbek Athambayev, who ended his
term in November 2017.

Talking heads

Call me, maybe?

Since Trump took office in January 2017, he has had more than 200 phone conversations with
over 40 foreign leaders as of July 6, 2018. He has had the most calls with French President
Emmanuel Macron and British Prime Minister Theresa May.

Putin has had 190 phone calls with 50 foreign leaders over the same period. Turkish President
Tayyip Erdogan tops his list, followed by Kazak President Nursultan Nazarbayev and Macron.
